Spring is well and truly here, and with it the opportunity to throw open your windows and give your house/shed/garden a good clean up. With many people enjoying social occasions over the coming months, now is a great time to get in and tackle some of those jobs you may have been putting off.
Here are some areas that you might want to have a look at:
1. Kitchen cabinets. Is the plastic container drawer out of control again? More lids than bottoms? Can’t find what you need when you need it? Take control!
2. Pantry. Are there empty packets in the pantry (or are your kids trained better than mine)? Is everything still within its use by date? Do you need a reorganisation to make the best use of the space you have?
3. Bookcases. Have miscellaneous items materialised in your bookcases? Is it time to get rid of unnecessary items?
4. Linen cupboard. Check with local animal shelters to see if they need old towels before throwing them away.
5. Freezer. Again check use by dates and maybe a reorganisation would make it easier to use items in a timely manner.
6. Rugs, lounges, curtains . Can they be cleaned or do they need to be replaced?
7. Do you still have boxes you haven’t unpacked from when you moved in? While family heirlooms, photos and memorabilia may be OK, other items may be able to be recycled or gotten rid of to free up space.
8. Wardrobes. Have the kids grown out of clothing? Have you? Please remember to wash all items that are being donated.
9. Kids toys. Broken toys can be hazardous. Either repair or remove them. Sometimes rotating toys can be useful. Put a group of toys away in a cupboard and bring them out in 3 months time. For many children this is just like getting new ones again.
10. Home office. Remember you need to keep financial records for 7 years. Older than that and most of them can go. Check with your accountant or industry association for the rules that apply to you.
11.Verandahs. Verandahs often become a temporary home for items. Might be time to move them on.
12. Garage / Shed. See my earlier post “Top 5 tips to bring your shed/workshop to life”
